LilBird and Daddy played some Uno Attack (probably the most played game in our house) while I was chauffeuring Ace home from gymnastics and Rockstar was at one of her numerous babysitting jobs. Their score-keeping evolved into an all out multi-digit math practice session. I witnessed clear and convincing evidence that my youngest daughter's choice of words screams, "I am a Child of the Computer Age."
Dad: Now we have that answer, 2345, and we're going to add 999 to that.
LilBird: That's only one less than a thousand!
Dad: Yes, it is. So we start with this column, 5 plus 9.
LilBird: Fourteen. So we write the 4 down here and we drag the 1 up here.
Dad: Yes, but we are carrying the 1, not dragging it. It's important that you know the proper terms in math.
LilBird: Oh, yeah, carry the 1.
Dad: Now we have 1 plus 4 plus 9. One plus 4 is?
LilBird: Five.
Dad: Five plus 9 is?
LilBird: Fourteen again, so we put another 4 down here, and we draaaaaaaaaag the one up here.
Dad: Correct, but we carry the one.
LilBird: Oh yeah. Carry.
Dad: Now we have 1 plus 3 plus 9. One plus 3 is?
LilBird: Four.
Dad: Four plus 9?
LilBird: Thirteen! So we put the 3 down here and we drag the one up here, and add it to 2. So the answer is three thousand three hundred forty-four!
Dad: That is right!
Drag. Carry. Same difference.
