We've been homeschooling for a good 13 years. My daughters are 16 (Rockstar), 13 (Ace) and 6 (Bird). We've run the gamut on styles and methods of home education through the years, handouts to hands-on, Saxon to edutainment. We're a secular, eclectic family, so we avoid most religious-based curricula. (Though, I admit I've been known to pick through religious-based workbooks when I couldn't find what I needed to aid the learning process elsewhere.) We've continued to use the "What Your __ Grader Needs to Know" series of books as a guide. I also keep tabs on the Oklahoma PASS guidelines, using them as a sort of "checklist" to make sure we're meeting - and exceeding - the state's public education standards. Since the birth of my youngest (and last) child, "routine" has been next to impossible but we keep trying. Flexibility is a must in our Family Academy.
